Facilities
Joyce Building
The Joyce Building, named for esteemed professor emerita of Fashion, Sr. Mary Elizabeth Joyce, CCVI, is home to the School of Media and Design's Interior Design and Fashion Management programs. Fashion students practice their techniques and may take classes in the building’s two sewing labs, one outfitted with industry-standard equipment, including a Gerber Garment Technology System for pattern development. Interior design students have access to three designated drawing rooms, large-format 3D printers and access to computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), a technology for design and technical documentation, which replaces manual drafting with an automated process.
Renovated in 1998, the facility also houses the Watson Auditorium, a 135-seat lecture hall.
Administration Building
The Administration Building is home to the Graphic Design, Communication Arts and 3D Animation and Game Design programs.
3D Animation and Game Design have five computer labs, many of which boast dual monitor setups.
Graphic Design has two labs in the admin building — one a drawing lab and one a Mac lab.
In Communication Arts, three Mac labs are dedicated for use by CommArts students. Students produce newscasts from the UIW TV studio, which features a green room, production control room, studio lights, 4k cameras, switchboards, teleprompters and more that students learn to operate. KUIW, the University’s internet radio station, is produced through the department’s radio studio which is also equipped with industry-standard equipment and a sound-proof booth.
